LB Brikowski Returns to the Gladiators

The Cleveland Gladiators announced on Monday they have activated MLB Brian Brikowski to their roster. Brikowski will make his return to the Cleveland defense on Saturday, July 11th when the Gladiators travel to Philadelphia to battle the Soul at 1:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center (game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and can also be heard on CBS Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan - Cleveland)

Brikowski, 26, enters his fourth season in the Arena Football League, having spent all but eight games of his career with the Cleveland Gladiators.

“It feels great coming back to Cleveland, the city just keeps calling me back. Cleveland has a special place in my heart and will always be a second home to me,” Brikowski said. “Coming back to a team in the midst of a tight American Conference playoff race, I think I’ll be a great addition to an already deep defensive front. I played with most of the guys on the roster before and we know how to play in-sync with one another.”

Last season, Brikowski amassed 18 tackles, four sacks, and a fumble recovery in nine games for the Gladiator defense before signing with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League on May 31st.

“It’s great to have Brik back. He was developing into a very good mac linebacker for us last season before he signed with Montreal ,” Head Coach Steve Thonn said. “He will give our defense an additional boost in the pass rush down the stretch.”

His first stint as a member of the Gladiators defense during the 2012 and 2013 seasons is where he established himself as a fan favorite, making 25 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles while leading the Cleveland defense.

“The fans in Ohio and Cleveland especially are second to none, they really make you feel a part of that ‘Ohio against the world’ mentality and I am down with that. My number one priority is helping this team bring Cleveland and its fans a championship in 2015.” Brikowski continued. “I am most looking forward to seeing everyone again, my teammates, as well as the coaching staff. I’m also eager to hear the roar of the great fans at Quicken Loans Arena once again.”

For his Arena Football League career, Brikowski has recorded 56 tackles, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries while playing for the Cleveland Gladiators and Chicago Rush.

He is a native of Freehold Township, New Jersey and played collegiately at Monmouth University.
