Gladiators Assigned Six Including Jacobbi McDaniel and CJ Cobb
The Cleveland Gladiators, presented by Unique Home Solutions, of the Arena Football League announced additional acquisitions on Monday and were assigned OL C.J. Cobb, DL Jacobbi McDaniel, DB Keiron Jones, DB JaJuan Harley and WR’s Phillip Barnett and Antonio Vaughan, the team announced.
Cobb, 28, returns for his second stint with the Gladiators after spending the 2016 season with the Orlando Predators.
A long-time fan favorite at Quicken Loans Arena, this will be Cobb’s fourth season in Cleveland. In his previous three campaigns (2013-15) he appeared in a total of 40 games on the offensive line, starting in 36 of those, and providing stability on the left side as a tackle.
The 6’4”, 310 lb. tackle is a native of Jacksonville, FL and played collegiately at Cincinnati.
McDaniel, 27, enters his first season in the AFL as a rookie having most recently spent time in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns.
McDaniel signed as an undrafted free agent with the Browns in 2014, making his debut on October 18th against the Jacksonville Jaguars before finishing the rest of the season on Cleveland’s practice squad.
McDaniel returned to the Browns for training camp in 2015 but, however, was among the final cuts in September before the start of the regular season.
At 6’0”, 293 lbs. the defensive lineman played his college ball at Florida State University where he appeared in 41 games over five seasons (2009-13) totaling 95 tackles, 13 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles as a member of the Seminoles.
McDaniel prepped at Madison County High School in Florida and originally hails from Greenville, FL.
Jones, 29, enters his fourth season in the AFL and first with the Gladiators. He joins a Cleveland secondary that set the AFL record in 2016 with interception returns for touchdowns with seven.
The 5’9”, 185 lb. defensive back spent the 2016 season in Arizona where he appeared in three games for the Rattlers. Prior to that, Jones played his first two seasons with the Jacksonville Sharks.
Jones is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana and is from Kenner, LA.
Harley, 25, will enter his first season in the AFL after briefly spending time with the Gladiators in training camp last season.
The 6’1”, 210 lb. defensive back spent time in training camp with Buffalo Bills of the NFL in 2014 and prior to that finished his collegiate career at Middle Tennessee State after transferring from Florida State University in 2011.
Harley is from Tallahassee, FL.
Barnett, 26, enters his third season in the AFL after spending the previous two seasons with the Tampa Bay Storm where the wide receiver caught 104 passes for 1,026 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Standing at 6’3”, 210 lbs. Barnett played collegiately at the University of Toledo and is originally from Middletown, OH.
Vaughan, 24, enters his first season in the AFL with the Gladiators. Vaughan spent some time with the Arizona Rattlers in 2016 but did not appear in a game.
