Gladiators Assigned QB Stephen Panasuk and DB Jamie Bender

The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League were assigned rookies QB Stephen Panasuk and DB Jamie Bender on Tuesday, the team announced.

Panasuk, 26, enters his first season in the AFL coming from the Wichita Force of the Champions Indoor Football League. In seven games this season, Panasuk completed 97-159 passes for 1,084 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Panasuk spent 2015 in the Professional Indoor Football League with the Trenton Freedom, where the 6’2”, 215 lb. quarterback threw for 1,866 yards and 34 touchdowns in 10 games.

A native of Jackson, N.J., Panasuk finished college at Wagner University after throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman in 2007 at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Bender, 25, also enters his first season in the AFL after spending the 2016 season with the Green Bay Blizzard and Nebraska Danger of the IFL .

Prior to joining the Gladiators, the 5’10”, 210 lb. defensive back registered 37 tackles and two interceptions for Green Bay before being traded to Nebraska earlier this month. He earned First Team-All IFL honors with the Blizzard in 2015 when he collected 61 tackles and five interceptions in nine games.

A native of Raleigh, Miss., Bender played two years at safety for the University of Alabama-Birmingham, recording 213 tackles and three interceptions for the Blazers.

In a corresponding move, the Gladiators have placed OL Chad Schofield and QB Dennis Havrilla on injured reserve.
