Gladiators Assigned OL Madsen and DL Colling

The Cleveland Gladiators announced on Monday they had been assigned OL Joe Madsen and DL Randy Colling.

Madsen, 25, enters his third season in the Arena Football League, as he comes to the Gladiators after spending the past two seasons with the Los Angeles KISS. While there Madsen started in 24 games over those last two seasons, with 16 of them coming in his 2014 rookie year.

“Joe brings two years of arena football experience to our offensive line.” Head Coach Steve Thonn added, “He has performed at a high level against some very good nose guards in our league.”

Madsen was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2013 before finishing the year on the Green Bay Packers practice squad during their playoff run. This past summer, Madsen spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions during the preseason before being released.

Prior to his professional career, Madsen started 50 games over a four-year career with the West Virginia Mountaineers and was named Second Team All-Big 12 his senior season for his contributions on the offensive line.

Madsen lives in Twinsburg, Ohio and played his high school ball at Chardon.

Colling, 25, returns for his fourth season in the Arena Football League, with all of them coming in a Gladiators uniform. This past season, Colling racked up 14.5 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in nine games as a veteran defensive end/nose guard for the Cleveland defense.

“It’s great to have Randy back with us for the 2016 season.” Thonn continued, “He has been one of our core defensive guys the past three seasons. His versatility to play every position on the defensive line as well as mac-linebacker makes him extremely valuable to our team."

For his career, Colling has collected 54.5 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

Colling is a graduate of Gannon University and is originally from Arcade, New York.
